Benvenuti : Welcome
My name is Letizia Mattiacci. I’m Italian.
I think of myself as someone who has had had many lives. The different versions of me are connected by my curiosity about nature and my passion about people and their relation with food.
I was born in Umbria, a small rural region between Rome and Florence. I left Italy for the first time to the US in order to work on a Ph.D. in behavioral ecology. Besides Italy, I have lived in 4 other countries and travelled to all continents except Australia and the Poles.
I have left academia in 2001 and have become a food writer, a cooking teacher, an olive oil producer and an innkeeper.
I have been writing my blog Madonna del Piatto since 2008 and have contributed monthly columns to The American in Italia and l’Italo-Americano.
Presently I live in Rome and offer small group cooking classes and lectures about Italian food and rural foodways.
